Quebec City Weekend Recap

Week 7 Recap from Québec City

Team Mullen is back and on top for the fourth time this season after taking the final prize in Québec City. Last weekend in Pittsburgh, Team Mullen clinched their ticket to the playoffs in Vegas, and it was Team Trottier’s turn to do so this past weekend in Québec City.

The Golden Helmet wearer, Brandon Hawkins, shined in Game 1 with two goals which contributed to Team LeClair’s 7-3 victory in the first game of the afternoon. In Game 2, Team Carbonneau took a 3-0 lead over Team Trottier and their attempted comeback wasn’t enough as Team Carbonneau advanced into the semifinals with their 5-3 victory. Another high-scoring game wrapped up pool play between Team Murphy and Team Mullen where the teams quickly learned that no lead was safe. Team Murphy ended up taking the win over Team Mullen, 7-4, but Team Mullen advanced to the next round with the most goals scored out of the losing teams.

The goal horn continued to go off quite frequently again in the first semifinal game between Team LeClair and Team Carbonneau. Just like before, Team Carbonneau took the lead early on and they didn’t let team LeClair come back from the deficit, so they earned a spot in the finals with their 8-2 win. Team Murphy and Team Mullen, who just met at the end of pool play, would battle for this second time this afternoon to face Team Carbonneau in the finals. After their first game, Joe Mullen told his team they needed to turn things around because they weren’t playing how he was used to seeing them play, and his locker room speech pushed his team to a 5-3 victory.

It all came down to Team Blue and Team Red in the Week 7 championship game. Both teams have been in this position before, but Team Mullen’s experience ultimately stood out over Team Carbonneau’s. Tyler Murovich’s opening goal of the game sparked the scoring for Team Mullen and Murovich himself didn’t stop. #72’s hat trick and Jacob Theut’s performance in net earned Team Mullen their fourth weekend victory in Québec City.

And while their trips are pretty regimented, the players were able to take some time and explore Old Québec outside of what Videotron Arena had to offer.

“Before we left on Sunday, we were able to check it out and it was beautiful,” Tyler Murovich of Team Mullen said. “The arena is unbelievable there and it was just an awesome experience to play there. The fans were great, we had unbelievable treatments from everyone there, and they were a great host for a 3ICE weekend.”
