Nashville Weekend Recap

Nashville Weekend Recap

Team Mullen opened 3ICE’s inaugural season with the first-ever weekend championship win, and they closed out the regular season with their fifth championship win this past weekend in Nashville. Even though they already had a playoff spot secured, that didn’t stop them from putting their feet on the gas in all three games they played.

Heading into the final tour stop of the regular season, there were still two playoff spots up for grabs. After the six games concluded, Team Murphy and Team LeClair were the two lucky teams to earn them.

In Game 1, Team Murphy took control of the game over Team Trottier from the moment the puck dropped. With a John Schiavo hat trick, they continued to keep up that momentum throughout the entire game to come away with an 8-2 win. Team Mullen took on Team Fuhr in Game 2 where Team Mullen advanced to the semifinals with their 5-2 win. An overtime shootout was needed to determine the winner between Team LeClair and Team Carbonneau, and the game-winning goal from Alex Kile sent Team LeClair to the next round with a 3-2 win.

Team Mullen and Team Murphy met in the first semi-final game. Team Murphy couldn’t get as many goals past goalie Jacob Theut as they did in their first game against Team Trottier. Team Mullen took advantage of this, especially Tim Coffman who led his team to a 4-1 victory. In a rematch of Game 2, Team LeClair and Team Carbonneau battled for a spot in the finals where they would face Team Mullen. After a back and forth 16 minutes of play, Team LeClair defeated Team Carbonneau for the second time on Saturday to advance to the finals.

The highest scoring game of Saturday’s event was saved for the final game of the regular season between Team Mullen and Team LeClair. Team Mullen took the first lead of the game, and they didn’t lose their lead throughout the rest of the game. A hat trick from Joe Whitney and another incredible performance in net from Theut led Team Mullen to their fifth championship of the regular season with a 7-4 victory over Team LeClair.

Whitney of Team Mullen will wear the Golden Helmet for the playoffs/championship weekend in Las Vegas and is also the official top scorer for the 3ICE 2022 season.

Now that the regular season is in the books, the four teams headed to Vegas on August 20th all have their eyes on the final prize – the Patty Cup. Team Mullen, Trottier, Murphy, and LeClair will all use the next two weeks to prepare for their second trip to Sin City in search of being the first team to ever hoist the Patty Cup.

“You gotta win two games and anybody can do that,” Joe Mullen said. “But you got to be ready, and you got to be willing to do whatever you have to do to win. I don't think we need to change anything, and I think we just have to play our game.”
