3ICE, a new, six-team, independent, three-on-three professional ice hockey league in North America, reveals seven more player signings for the inaugural season, which opens June 18 in Las Vegas.
Leland Irving, Jeremy Brodeur, Greg Mauldin, Chris Mueller, Patrick Mullen, Steven Olesky and Brock Trotter have all signed one-year deals with the league. Each player will be eligible to be drafted by six different teams that will consist of seven players (including one goalie), competing in a nine week season that will feature six games each night. 3ICE Players will be competing for more than US$2 million in prize money across all nine tour-stops.
Irving, who was selected 26th overall in the NHL’s 2006 Entry Draft, goaltended two seasons with the Calgary Flames. His experience also includes five seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Everett Silvertips where he once held the league’s all-time career shutout record (21), as well as playing seven seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL).
Brodeur, the son of Martin Brodeur, has over 11 years of goaltending experience, including three seasons with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) where he became the franchise’s all-time leader in shutouts and won a championship in 2015. He later went on to spend four seasons in the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) and another four in the AHL.
After accumulating 94 points in 98 games at UMass-Amherst, Mauldin was selected 199th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he has spent over 20 seasons in a number of leagues, including the AHL and the Swiss National League A. In 2010, he signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche where he scored 10 points in 29 games.
Mueller played five seasons in the NHL between 2010 and 2015 where he saw action with the Nashville Predators, Dallas Stars and New York Rangers. He has also logged over 15 seasons in the AHL, playing with a number of teams and winning two Calder Cups (Texas Stars 2014, Toronto Marlies 2018), as well as earning an All-Star appearance in 2002 as a member of the Milwaukee Admirals.
Mullen, the son of Joe Mullen, most recently played for UK’s Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), started his career playing junior hockey for the Sioux Falls Stampede, which later led to him attending the University of Denver where he spent four years. Undrafted from college, he signed a two-year free agent contract with the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings in 2009. He played 10 seasons in the AHL before spending four seasons overseas.
Olesky’s NHL experience includes three seasons with the Washington Capitals and one with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he won a Stanley Cup in 2016. In addition to his time in the NHL, he spent 11 seasons in the AHL and six in the ECHL.
After spending a season in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League and US Hockey League, Trotter played at the University of Denver prior to joining the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL in 2007. During his seven season stint in the AHL, he was called up to appear in two games with the Montreal Canadiens in 2009. He also spent time over his career playing internationally in various leagues, including the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and the Finnish Elite League.
