Breaking The ice

Samson Mahbod

Meet Samson Mahbod

Like many other 3ICE players, Samson Mahbod had skates on at a very young age. When he was about three years old, his mom put him in skating lessons. However, they weren’t hockey lessons and instead, Mahbod was learning how to figure skate.

“Then I saw people playing hockey after and apparently, I was crying, and I wanted to stay on the ice after I was done,” Mahbod said. “So, my mom put me in hockey since she saw that I loved it, and it looked like I wanted to play.”

It’s a good thing he switched over to hockey because he has since made a career out of it. Mahbod will be entering his 19th season of playing and in those 19 years, he has played all over from up in the QMJHL, to the ECHL, and most recently throughout leagues in Europe.

“I would say one of the most memorable was probably winning the championship in juniors because we had a good group,” Mahbod said. “We were underdogs and I think that was something really exciting.”

At 33 years old, Mahbod knows hockey can’t last forever and his career is most likely going to wrap up in the next few years. With this in mind, he’s been building his real estate portfolio since 2016 and owns some property in downtown Montreal, so this is something he’ll keep up with after hockey.

“Just keep growing my portfolio, buying more buildings, and taking care of the property management side too,” Mahbod said. “I started growing that in the last three years, so I have over 100 units that I do short-term rentals right now.”

#11 of Team Carbonneau is looking forward to hitting the ice in Quebec City, an area he is quite familiar with. It’s been about 14 years since Mahbod has played in Quebec, so returning with 3ICE will be extra special for the Montreal native.

“I'm excited because a lot of people that are friends and family that are coming to watch, and I haven't played in Quebec in a very long time so that’s something I'm looking forward to.”
