Breaking The ice

Grant Fuhr

Grant Fuhr loves 3-on-3 hockey and the strong offensive aspect of it. Fuhr, the only 3ICE coach who was a goalie during his time in the NHL, knows how to read the game and expects there to be a lot of scoring chances at each tour stop once the puck drops on June 18.

“I love the game and I think that's the biggest thing,” Fuhr said. “Of course, playing in the ’80s with the Oilers, I love offensive hockey and that's what 3-on-3 is. It's not about playing boring defensive hockey, it's about the offense. It's the exciting part of the game and that's what had had my interest.”

Team Fuhr is a little bit more of a veteran group through the eyes of the head coach. Knowing the potential all 3ICE players have and the heightened amount of offense, Fuhr looks to his players to put pucks in the net and make strong defensive plays, and trusts his goaltender to prevent the puck from going in.

“So, I think we're going to be solid in our own end and we will play decent defense,” Fuhr said. “But at the same time, I think we've got some guys that can attack offensively. Anytime you play 3-on-3, you want to be able to attack offensively, so I think we're going to be good that way.”

The Vezina Trophy winner thinks fans can expect some fast-paced and exciting game with lots of offensive chances. He’s certain that every game will be fun to watch and the fun for Fuhr comes with traveling to all the different cities on the 3ICE tour and standing behind the bench at all the different venues.

“Some of the venues I've never been in and there are a couple that I have been in,” Fuhr said. “I've been in Nashville. I've been in Grand Rapids. I've been in Quebec City. I haven't been in the rink in London so that'll be fun. They're all going be good cities and I think that's the fun part, so hopefully we can see lots of fans come out.”
