It was a fun weekend for Chad Costello and Team Trottier who came away victorious in the Championship game over Team Mullen in Grand Rapids.
“Team Yellow was on quite a roll, so it’s been nice for us to get better and better every week so far,” Costello said. “The first week in Vegas, we struggled a bit. We made the finals the second week and got beat by Team Mullen, so it was nice to get a little payback.”
Costello and Coach Trottier both agree that Team Blue is finding success because they’ve done a good job at playing as a team where everybody in the lineup is contributing. The goal scorers are also making crucial defensive plays when necessary while the goalie is keeping pucks out of the net and his team in the game.
“I think that we found our style of play which is playing as a team and moving the puck,” Costello said. “I think that we play pretty hard too, so we're hard to beat. It was just slowly finding the way that we needed to play to win and it’s exciting that we found it this weekend.”
The key to Team Trottier is that everybody gets along well with one another. The connection off the ice helps with the chemistry on the ice, which resulted in a collective team effort in Grand Rapids.
“Our locker room has a lot of fun and it starts with our coach,” Costello said. “Trottier is one of the most fun people I've ever been around. He just lightens the mood, he's so positive, so kind, and obviously is a great coach. He kind of starts that off so we just follow in his lead which has led to us becoming closer and closer as a group.”
Three weeks into the 3ICE season, Costello is enjoying the on-ice competition, and being able to do so throughout the summer has been a treat for him. He looks forward to growing as a group and continuing to compete with Blue Team for the Patty Cup.
“It slowly started out as kind of a learning process where no one really knew what to expect,” Costello said. “But now as you see, we're hockey players so we're starting to compete. As far as off the ice, the 3ICE organization is so first-class and they treat us so nicely. They’re just really good people and fun to be around. It's an honor just to be a part of it.”
