Meet Peter “Swaggy P” Lenes
Peter Lenes, known to many as Swaggy P, took his stickhandling skills to Instagram and is now bringing them to the 3ICE stage. While nobody in his immediate family played hockey, his cousin sparked his interest in the sport, and has been hooked ever since.
“I’m from Vermont where it's rather cold most of the year,” Lenes said. “I may have seen my cousin play and then I just wanted to go out on the pond and try it out.”
Pond hockey quickly turned into playing for the University of Vermont and later, playing in the ECHL and even overseas. Throughout his career, he’s established a presence on Instagram through his off-season hockey training with ELEV802. So where did the infamous nickname of Swaggy P come from?
“I always tried to dress nicely and stuff like that amongst friends and stuff,” Lenes said. “Then when we started doing more and more on Instagram, it's almost like you needed a name that's not your name. Swaggy P just kind of stuck, then we kept going with that, and that's where we are with it.”
It’s nonstop hockey for Lenes who is on 8-week long road trip with 3ICE where he’s traveling from city to city on the weekends and then teaches hockey lessons during the week. Off the ice, he enjoys spending time with his fiancé, Alex, and their three bulldogs, Juice, Markus, and Pablo.
“The thing is they're obsessed with hockey as well,” Lenes said. “So, it kind of works out. My fiancé not as much, but the Bulldogs are definitely. That's how we play and get them going.”
For #5 of Team Fuhr, every weekend is a new weekend. He’s enjoyed every weekend of 3ICE thus far and is looking forward to what’s to come.
“You have points that accumulate over the season, but Denver maybe wasn't our team's best showing, so then we go in and it's totally different when we're in Hershey,” Lenes said. “It's pretty cool that each one is so unique and different. That's what the fun thing is. It's totally different than a normal hockey season because it feels like every single weekend is a fresh start.”
