Breaking The ice

John Schiavo

Meet John Schiavo

At a young age, John Schiavo was always around the rink - a roller-hockey rink. He got into ice hockey thanks to roller inline hockey which he played growing up in Long Island, New York.

“My dad used to play recreation hockey all over New York and luckily got me on some wheels at a really young age,” Schiavo said. “I absolutely loved it. I always had a stick in my hand, so it was something I fell in love with right away as a youngster.”

From roller skates to ice skates, Schiavo has a lifetime of memories from his career and now he’s crating more with 3ICE. Whether it was winning an SPHLChampionship in ice hockey or winning two World Championships in inline hockey with Team USA, Schiavo has accomplishments throughout the world of hockey (both roller and ice).

“As a kid, going to the rink with my mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa was pretty special,” Schiavo said. “Going to all the tournaments, traveling around, and being with the whole family while playing the game I love are awesome memories, too.”

Schiavo’s weekends spent with 3ICE have been incredible, but his life during the week is absolute mayhem (the great type of mayhem) between training and then running two businesses. Back in Eagan, Minnesota, Schiavo owns his own training facility, Best Shift Training (which just opened this summer), as well as Best Shift Hockey, a hockey clothing company.

“We are working nonstop here at the facility and at the shop to sell and get clients in,” Schiavo said. “It's been a really exciting summer getting started, but being said, it's not easy starting a new business. So, it's an adventure and then traveling on the weekends is extra exciting.”

Schiavo describes playing with 3ICE as a dream and every game he’s played in thus far has been nothing short of awesome. #47 of Team Murphy is taking in every aspect of the new league. He’s loved every city he’s been to, feels that the games have gone rather smoothly, and can’t wait for what’s to come in the second half of the season.

“It's like a dream to play on TV with so many great guys that have played, whether in the NHL or in the minors, and the skill is so good,” Schiavo said. “Ithink it's awesome just to promote the game in a new way and a new style. Now, we (Team Murphy) got to make a strong push here, gather some pointsin the last couple of trips, and I’m excited to see what happens in the playoffs.”
