After playing 16 seasons in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, and the Pittsburgh Penguins, John LeClair is ready to be on the other side of hockey and on the bench with 3ICE this season.
“I think being back in the game like this, being on the bench, and getting that excitement of competing in a game like that is something I'm really looking forward to,” LeClair said. “As far as my guys, it’s going to be great just being around them, watching these guys succeed, and being on the ride with them.”
When looking at Team LeClair, the head coach points to the notable experience throughout his team. As the first American-born player to score 50 goals in three consecutive NHL seasons, LeClair hopes his team leans on their past hockey experience to successfully find the back of the net in the coming 3ICE season.
“They played at a high level and have experienced at a high level that I like,” LeClair said. “They all have a sense of scoring to them. I think they all know how to put the puck in the net, and I like that as I like my team to be offensive. We're going to hopefully get lots of goals out of some of these really talented players.”
While it’s tough to say what exactly is going to happen when the six 3ICE teams hit the ice for the first time this season, LeClair expects everybody out there to move the puck quickly, exert lots of speed going up and down the ice, and take advantage of creative opportunities in terms of puck control and unique plays.
“Being creative is one thing I'm going to stress with my guys,” LeClair said. “If you want to try a move or try a play, I think we should. it's something that I'm going to really encourage, and I want them to be as creative as much as they can be out there.”
The five-time NHL All-Star is looking forward to travelling to the eight different cities for each 3ICE tour stop. Further, LeClair is excited to be a part of the entire journey and to experience the unique feel that each city has to offer.
“They picked eight great cities that I think we're going to get a lot of support from. The fans that do come out are just going to have a great time.”
